Oro Verde Loja

A real gem, centrally located and very safe. The food was great, especially the locro with bacon. Their horchata dispenser beside the front desk felt like a hug to my inner child. The accommodations were nice and fancy, and breakfast was good.

The rooms are very good and the location is excellent. My 4 rating is because the breakfast buffet is minimal and includes leftovers from the restaurant the day before.

The building and rooms were beautiful, the staff pleasant and helpful, and breakfast was tastier than I expected. But I wouldn't stay again or recommend it. The refrigerator didn't work, there was no ice, and although they provided instant coffee and a microwave, there was no creamer or way to store milk. The shower leaked onto the bathroom floor even with the door closed, and the bidet didn't work, though water did leak from it onto the floor from the wall. The room safe still wouldn't work after several staff members tried resetting it. This place has potential, but isn't quite there yet. My $20 hotel room in Bankok worked better.

After two years living in Loja and trying plenty of hotels, this is easily the best. I stay here often and recommend it to visitors. The restaurant is great, with some of the best salmon I've had in Ecuador, and breakfast has a huge selection. Staff are super friendly and professional, reception speaks English, and the rooms are clean with good complimentary soaps, hot water, and solid wifi. The building's interior is beautiful, and I believe parking in the garage is free. Prices are very reasonable compared with other nice hotels in different cities here. There's no gym, pool, or other amenities. If you want a view and lots of ventilation, try requesting a room on the top 6th floor, since many lower rooms only have interior windows. Still, the large open interior means I've never found any of the rooms stuffy, unlike lower-quality hotels elsewhere. Sometimes I even prefer the more cave-like feel because it insulates noise better and gives me a peaceful night's sleep. Even in the middle of the city, the building is quiet.
