Maracumbo Lodge

I planned on just a couple of nights and wound up staying a week. Christian, the owner, is relaxed and welcoming, and basically lets you enjoy your time in his backyard. The separate spaces still have a very familiar feel. His dog chia helped with that too, sleeping outside my tent every night like a little guard. The campsite is a two-minute walk outside town, close enough to everything but much quieter. I loved the hammock evenings, surfing with Christian, and cooking with fresh herbs from the garden. I rarely relax as well as I did here. Recommend. :)

Christian was incredibly attentive and accommodating, and gave me good suggestions for things to do in mompiche. The place is just a five-minute walk from the town center, which was very convenient. I loved the authentic mix of nature and hostel life. The rooms had decent beds and bathrooms, and the shared open kitchen was well stocked. The slackline was a fun bonus. The rooms are fine, and the beach is at most a 10-minute walk away. Internet isn't guaranteed, and geese may wake you before you want to get up. There's lots of mosquitoes, as you'd expect, so be prepared. The kitchen is nice, but the pots were all in the fridge holding people's leftovers, which left fewer options for cooking. The place has real potential, though it suits someone with a more free-spirited style. Christian has done a great job setting it up, and I think it could become a great place to stay with time. The entrance is by the sign out front.

I stayed with Christian at Maracumbo Lodge for the second time in May. It's clean, affordable, and closely connected to nature and jungle life. If you want a laid-back beach town and surf atmosphere for a longer stay, this is the place.
