The activities and shows were entertaining, the beach it’s connected to was fine, and most staff seemed to be doing their best. But our large family group, young and old, was unhappy with the resort. I wouldn’t call it luxury and can’t recommend it. The rooms were outdated, the food was generally poor tasting and low quality, and some staff seemed unhappy to be there. I even saw one person roll their eyes at another. The place needs an overall upgrade to safety, food, and facilities. At breakfast I found parasites in the fruit. The video shows only a few, and there were more on the other side of the clementine on my plate. The kitchen staff apologized and explained why parasites can occur in fruit. After confirming they were parasites, they stepped away for a few minutes without anyone watching the fruit or warning people not to eat it. I had to warn them myself. A resort that calls itself upscale and charges what it does has no excuse for serving this. The medical center didn’t have the proper parasite medication I needed afterwards, and because the resort is isolated, we had to drive over an hour to a pharmacy. They never offered compensation, not even money for medication for the illness they caused me. The restaurant booking system was unreliable too. We reserved online the night before, arrived, and found the restaurant closed without being told. The front desk said they couldn’t seat us anywhere else because everything was full. A family member had to speak to staff at another restaurant, and that was the only way we got a table. That restaurant had plenty of room, with only three or four of around 20 tables occupied. I don’t know why the system said it was fully reserved. It shouldn’t have let us book a closed restaurant, and the front desk should have been able to place us somewhere else.

The week turned out to be memorable, with good food, fun tennis, pool, and table tennis, friendly people around the pool, and special views and sunsets. The kids loved the little daily boat ride to the beach. Still, the price didn’t match the level of luxury, and as someone booking from England in advance, I felt I was being charged special “rich Westerner” prices. I can’t compare it with other Ecuador beach resorts. We were a family of 4 and stayed a few years ago. After an 8 hour drive from Quito, we were disappointed by our first room. It had no view, and the sliding doors didn’t close or lock properly. We complained and were moved to a much better room. Not the best first impression for such an extremely expensive hotel.

The beach is extraordinary, with warm water, a long, clean stretch of sand, and waves that are just right for fun. The tides limit beach time to a few hours in the morning, though. I’m glad to see the rooms and buildings have been well maintained since my first visit eleven years ago. The service is still top-notch, with kind, friendly, helpful staff. There are still dozens of employees, which I’m sure helps the local community. The food quality has fallen more than I expected, and the newer room expansion seems to use lower-quality materials. Even though the hotel wasn’t full, it felt a little uncomfortable and crowded. All in all, it was a good experience.

We’re trying to sleep!!! Enjoy your parties, but we came to the island for some peace and quiet. The music itself is fine, but that guy on the microphone keeps screaming and howling, and his loud, squeaky voice is so annoying 😭😒. Could you turn the speakers inward so the noise doesn’t echo all over the place?
