Hotel La Basílica Quito

We felt safe in the hotel, with the main doors kept locked and entry by intercom. Myriam greeted us warmly, answered all our questions, and welcomed us every morning and whenever we came in. The guest service staff were attentive with breakfast and cleaning our room. It’s in the old town, close to all amenities, and we’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting Quito, Ecuador.

The rooms were impeccably clean, and this beautiful hotel is in Quito’s historic area, within walking distance of the Basilica del Voto Nacional. But you need to be comfortable with the management’s rules and attitude. On New Year’s Eve, we got back at 12:50 a.m. and had to wait for someone to open the entrance. I said, “Good evening, Happy New Year!” when the manager or owner let us in, and she replied in a grumpy voice, “Good morning.” I felt like a child who’d broken a midnight curfew. Roger had a bad nosebleed on checkout day and needed a large towel and a small one while we headed to the clinic. We were charged $20 for them. I think this hotel would always be full if guests felt welcome after the initial tour.

Breakfast was delicious, and the rooms were well kept and very clean. The staff were absolutely lovely and kind, and the hotel itself is beautiful. It’s right in the heart of Quito, so you can walk through the historic center, find local authentic food, and enjoy city tours. Incredible hotel!

We spent three nights at Hotel La Basilica, with the historic sites of Old Town just steps away. The staff and service were magnificent and made us feel like family. Arranging the airport shuttle was easy and convenient, especially since we arrived late. Breakfast was made to order and delicious, served in the beautiful courtyard. The place was spotless too. There always seemed to be one or two staff members shining and buffing the surfaces. Don’t miss this gem in the heart of Old Town!
