El Andariego

A great spot, with modern, thoughtfully designed rooms and a very nice owner. I enjoyed talking with him on the ride to the airport. For the standard of accommodation, I’d say it’s the best value in the city.

The staff made me feel very welcome, and the hostel was spotlessly clean and nicely furnished, even though it was very quiet during my low-season visit. It’s right in the center of Otavalo, and I’d happily return or recommend it to others.

The only thing that bothered me was how creaky it got at night. The wooden floors and furniture seem to make noise whenever anyone moves. Otherwise, the facilities are really nice, the staff are warm and welcoming, and the location is perfect. There’s good WiFi, a well-equipped kitchen with free morning coffee, a nice roof terrace overlooking the city, and cute dorms with a maximum of four people.

The staff were very nice and helpful, and there’s a big common table where you can eat with other backpackers. The kitchen is very good, too. The rooms and bathrooms are comfortable, the showers are great, and this is one of the cleanest hostels I’ve ever seen.
