Hostal Riviera Sucre

The rooms are good quality, breakfast is healthy, and the staff are very helpful. It has a local feel and a very good location. Highly recommended.

Breakfast was a real highlight: traditional bread baked in an oven, fruit cups with yogurt and granola, perfectly cooked eggs, fresh coffee and tea, plus pitchers of wild berry juice. One of the cooks brought my daughter an extra glass and explained how the berries are collected, cooked and preserved for the juice. On another afternoon, staff gave us umbrellas when rain was forecast. They were useful, and when we got back they lit the wood fireplace in the games room, a lovely end to the day. We were five in my family and stayed at Hostal Riviera Sucre at the beginning of March 2025. We all had a great time. The old colonial house, with its gardens, courtyards and fountains, was lovely, and my daughter especially liked the hammocks. The rooms weren’t luxurious, but they had what we needed and were nicely decorated to fit the property’s style. We loved the Otavalo blankets and the little colonial details. The staff were friendly, proactive and helpful from our first call and reservation through our arrival and stay. After checkout, my daughter left her sunglasses in the room, and they quickly let us know they’d found them and had them at reception. My only suggestion would be to offer pillows with different firmness, though they were available on request. The reviews and photos had set our expectations high, and the place met them and then some. Hostal Riviera Sucre is a hidden gem in Otavalo. I’d definitely stay here again and recommend it even over some pricier options.

I meant to stay for two nights and ended up staying four. The rooms were nice, with a heater and a smart TV, and breakfast was good. Everyone on staff was helpful, especially Paulina, who speaks English very well. She answered all my questions about getting here from Mindo and suggested places to visit and eat. She also recommended a massage, the best I’ve had in Latin America. The therapist had studied several different treatments, not just massage, and helped ease my back pain. They even packed breakfast for me to take on my early bus. Thanks for everything. I’d recommend this place 120% and will come back.

Close to the heart of central Otavalo, this quiet, clean hotel was a great find. Our room was peaceful and the bed was comfortable. The man at reception even kindly lit a fire for us in the evening. Lovely central place with great staff, and I’d recommend this hostal.
