Hostal Marysol

A basic but very clean room in a great spot right in the town center. We paid $45 per night for a double room with a bathroom and air conditioning, and you can reserve a room at short notice.

The room had dirty sheets, ants, no water at times, no usable internet, and a broken, very loud air conditioner. I also felt unsafe. The one upside is that the price is negotiable: I saw people paying anywhere from $8 to $50 a night, regardless of the posted or quoted price. They greeted us with smiles, but their attitude changed once we'd paid. The owner seemed very focused on water use, measuring consumption and lowering the pressure until our room had no water. If we complained, it came back briefly, then the pressure dropped again. There was also a water cooler in the common area, and she expected a one-dollar donation for each cup. She would give you a disapproving stare if she caught you washing dishes in the kitchen. The internet started out decent, then got slower until it was unusable, much like the water. Don't keep food in the room unless you want to share it with ants. There were lots of lizards too, though I actually enjoyed watching them eat the ants and bugs. The air conditioning units started quietly but got louder the longer they ran, enough to keep me awake. I had to choose between unbearable heat and unbearable noise. Luckily, watching the lizards eat bugs relaxed me enough to sleep. Bringing up problems could get you a nasty attitude and sarcastic comments from the owner. It felt like we were having two completely different conversations: I'd ask about bugs in the room, and she'd talk about problems with her bicycle. She also left the master keys to all the rooms lying around the common areas, sometimes on a table, in a door lock, or under the water dispenser. I wouldn't leave valuables like money or a passport in the room. And bring your own keys, since the owner often forgot where she'd put hers and asked us to open doors for her.

I wouldn't recommend it. The room smelled bad, there were water problems, and it had no windows.

Bad place. Don't come here, the service is horrible.
