La Casa de Celeste

The traffic from the main road was the biggest problem for me. If noise bothers you, I wouldn’t recommend staying here, though I still enjoyed my visit. The rooms are basic and the hostess is nice. Water was lukewarm. The top-floor kitchen has a great ocean view, but it felt too basic for me, with cheap, limited pots and pans.

Jorge, the owner, was extremely helpful and even drove us downtown for our tour and to the dock. The place was very clean, and we had our own kitchen plus access to the rooftop kitchen. It’s a little farther out than some places, but still within walking distance of everything we needed.

Celeste and Jorge made our stay fantastic. We found Jorge through a guide at the airport, and liked being up the hill from the town center because it gave us more of a feel for local life. We ate nearby at "El Captians" and I had a lobster for $15. Good stuff! Celeste helped with whatever we needed, from arranging tours and washing clothes to suggesting trips. She was wonderful and made the trip much more enjoyable. Our room was clean, the beds were fine, and the AC worked great. After five weeks of travel, I slept better here than anywhere else on the trip. Taxi rides cost $1.50. I’m sure we saved some money by staying away from the waterfront, and we had more fun that way too. I highly recommend the Casa de Celeste ! !

It’s a bit farther out, but nice and quiet. The shared kitchen has a beautiful view. When I asked about tour operators at check-in, they were very helpful and pointed me to a great person.
