I came for the location, but the hotel felt badly dated. Paint was peeling in lots of places, and the halls and facilities had a musty, moldy smell. Breakfast was inedible: eggshells in the scramble, tough meat, and boiled hot dogs that weren't cooked through. I remember it being much better on earlier visits years ago. Overnight guests also had to share the facilities with lots of day visitors, so everything felt overcrowded. The pool area didn't have the relaxed atmosphere I expected. There was a Catholic mass that went on for more than 45 minutes, along with a private event, and it spoiled the chance to unwind. Even the staff seemed embarrassed and apologized. Having a priest speak continually over a microphone felt completely out of place in a public, secular space where people come to relax. You have to buy a swim cap to use the pool, which seems outdated and unnecessary by international resort standards. I'd look elsewhere in Quito for a decent, relaxing stay. This place was horrible.

I've never had worse customer service. I understand that a place can be expensive, but does that mean the whole staff has to be so unpleasant too?

I was there for a program and only stayed three hours, but I'd go back if I got the chance. The place was really beautiful, and the food was great. The people working there were helpful, welcoming, and really good. The city's electricity was out, but their plants were running, so I didn't even notice there was no light.

The staff were very nice and spoke English. This historic hotel sits on the edge of the mountain, with lovely views over the valley. Book through Expedia if you want breakfast included.
