I'd stayed at Hotel David before, but this place was closer to the historic district and called itself "suites," so I expected a lot more. The rooms were absolutely horrible. My first one was basically a big closet with no ventilation, and it got ridiculously hot with two people in it. There wasn't a bathroom mirror either, though the staff were excellent and moved us to another room. That room was only a little better, still hot and poorly ventilated, and the bed was horrible. I paid to upgrade to a room with windows. That fixed the ventilation problem but brought nonstop noise all night, buses, taxis honking, everything. These were the worst rooms I've seen in any hotel. Calling them suites is a total abuse of the word.

Denis, the hotel administrator, made our stay, helping with everything we needed even though we asked for a lot. The rooms were very clean, and the pretty patio was a peaceful spot for breakfast or a rest. In Quito's historical center, this is a simple, well located place. If you're after a good deal with a good standard, this is it.

I was planning to stay several days, but after the first night I couldn't get out of there fast enough. The old building is run-down, and the rooms are badly maintained. The pictures are very misleading. It's on a busy, noisy street, and the noise inside is extreme. You can hear people in other rooms, even just walking around. Then at 7:30 a.m., music somewhere in the hotel was blasting so loudly it literally made the room vibrate. I couldn't sleep. The rooms are cheap, but you get what you pay for. Breakfast was okay, nothing great.

I came for one night before my flight home, but injured my knee and had to stay five nights. I was in a brace and on crutches, and the staff looked after me like I was at a 5 star hotel. They were kind, attentive, quick, gracious, and fun. I was stuck in bed and needed a lot of help, but they never made me feel like a burden. I have over a decade of hospitality experience, and I was truly impressed by their care. The location is excellent, within walking distance of the historic center. Rooms are clean, beds comfortable, TVs nice, breakfast tasty, and reception is secure 24hr. Dennis, Jhon, David, and the awesome dog Obi-Wan are superb. This place is special, and I highly recommend it for a stay in Quito.

The beds were comfortable, and the room was clean when we arrived, but that couldn't make up for the noise and smell of smog. Our room faced the main road, and the windows and wooden panels wouldn't close properly, so buses, cars, and motorcycles felt like they were right inside. Sleeping was really difficult. Street fumes came into the room and left all our clothes smelling awful. Honestly, it seems really bad for your health. Thankfully, we were able to move to another room. When we called the owner, David, and confronted him about what was happening, he wasn't helpful at all.
