We only stopped by to walk around the grounds, so we didn’t stay. It has an old-fashioned, traditional feel, and the service was good.

The ceviche was a highlight of our lunch. The shrimp was cooked just right, and the flavors worked together without overpowering it. The steak, though, was quite tough, so they may need to look at their beef supplier or butcher. We didn’t stay overnight, but the grounds are peaceful, with birdsong throughout the day. Some of the trees and shrubs need attention. I also enjoyed seeing the antique items and learning their history. It could be a lovely spot for events, maybe even an intimate birthday. It’s a beautiful place.

The restaurant was pretty bad, which may explain why it was so quiet even on a weekend. Walking the grounds felt peaceful, though a lot of work is needed to maintain the place. It must have been amazing when it was active. I’d love to own it and bring it back to life.

The hacienda has a memorable old-time feel, with artifacts and artwork, gardens, peacocks wandering around, and lovely mountain views. It’s a third-generation hacienda renovated into a hosteria, and the staff were friendly. Quito is about an hour away, roughly $15-20 by taxi; la mitad del mundo is around an hour and a half away. Ecuador’s native chocolate is amazing, and people were friendly wherever we went. Speaking Spanish helps. A memorable stay in a memorable place.
