I still haven’t even arrived, and I’ve already been dealing with this for two weeks. The owner, JOSE LUIS TACO, cancelled my reservation without asking, after I had paid for the room through a booking company. I believe he did it so I’d have to pay again at check-in. Now I have no reservation and no money, and he blocked me, so I can’t contact the hotel. I’ve had no respect as a customer and no other options. This has been the worst experience ever. I can’t give zero stars, but please read the reviews carefully before booking. I think most are fake, which is why the rating is high.

The area has loads around it: handmade shoe shops with high-quality pairs for $150, belts and clothing, plus street vendors. A few blocks away is one of Quito’s best markets, probably in the top three, with fresh fruit and vegetables and different food stalls. You’re also close to mountain and waterfall hikes, and a few blocks from the main bus street, with buses to all kinds of places, including the beach, Amazon, Colombia and Peru. During the day the location is quaint, beautiful and historic, and there’s supposed to be one of Quito’s best seco de pollo spots across from the hostel, with a line of people buying food. We were told by several people that the area isn’t safe at night. Being dropped off and picked up by taxi after dark was fine, though. I’m taking off a star because of the possible crime at night.

The views were gorgeous, and we really appreciated getting to know Pedro Luis during our stay. Hostal Restaurante La Suite is centrally located, with easy access to the market and other local attractions. We had a great time there.

The building’s history fits its surroundings and adds to the stay. The room was simple but clean, and the service felt attentive and secure. The restaurant was pretty good too, with good prices and service. It’s a great base for exploring the area, and a great place to stay in Sangolqui overall. I’d come back for the clean, secure rooms, good service and awesome prices.
