El Albergue Español Hostel

The pool across the road has a really fun slide and pleasantly warm water. It costs $2 per adult and $1 per child. The hostel is well located, close to the town center on a quiet street, with a partial river view. The owner is friendly and lives there with his family, and one employee works incredibly hard. The wooden rooms have comfortable beds and pillows, and the showers have hot water. Guests can use the kitchen, but it’s quite small, with a small fridge, a somewhat questionable stove, and not many bowls, pans, pots, spoons, or mugs.

Thanks so much to Theo for all his advice. El Albergue Español is an affordable, comfortable place to stay, with a large terrace and a kitchen. There’s also a real sense of hospitality and a spirit built up over several generations. It’s a good place to rest and an ideal starting point for a stay at Ceibo Lodge, which is run by the same family.

We were welcomed so warmly this afternoon. The gentle breeze was relaxing, and they had cold drinks for everyone. The owners and staff were very kind, letting our chef prepare our food and use their table space. Thank you for such wonderful hospitality.

I couldn’t communicate with the woman working at reception. I asked about the prices and explained that I wanted the cheapest option, but she showed me two private rooms at $20 even after I said that was too much. She wasted my time and put me off staying in any of the hostel’s rooms. The customer service was awful. There are also no lockers for people staying in the dorm, which is unacceptable.
