Hostel Lõuna

Our Airbnb was cancelled for no reason, so we needed somewhere to stay at 2:00. We called ahead and arrived at this place, where the woman working there was really friendly. For 50euros we got a decent room with a bathroom and the other essentials, a really good price given the location and that it was after midnight. Thanks for saving our trip!

The dorm has eight beds facing into the room, all surrounded by white walls, and the place reminded me of an old Soviet hospital. Even with just two people in there, keeping the windows closed didn’t seem possible. Outside, there’s a busy road with a broken cover in it, so every vehicle passing makes a loud noise. It is clean, though the chlorine smell is strong. The small kitchen has good facilities and a fridge. With some luck, they could renovate and put pictures on the walls, perhaps add a board with information about things to do in town and nearby.

It was quiet inside, with very little street noise, even though the hotel is near the town center. The rooms are quite simple, but the bathrooms are really nice and updated. You can tell they’re trying to make the place as nice as they can. There are several very good restaurants close by, so you don’t have to walk far to find a good meal.

For 20€, I expected much better. The rooms are packed with single bunk beds like in the army, and the building looks as if it hasn’t been renovated since the USSR fell. The hydraulic brake on the room door was faulty and made it slam every time someone came in, waking people up. Honestly, it’s worth half the price and was one of the worst hostels I’ve stayed at in Europe. Some of the other guests seemed sketchy, though I suppose that isn’t the hostel’s fault. As a woman, I’d certainly feel unsafe.
