Gotthard Residence

The room was charming and clean, with a fridge, cooking hob, microwave, hot shower, and fast internet. It was below ground level, which suited me because there was no light or sound to disturb me. At 37 euros for a place in central Tallinn just after tourist season, you can’t beat the price. I stayed one night and arrived late, when reception was unmanned. The main door was left open, and I could collect the room key from a lockbox just inside the entrance. For coffee any time, there’s a machine in the lobby, but bring 1 and 2 euro coins.

The terrace was lovely, though I doubt I'd choose to stay here again. Our room had no window and felt gloomy, and one of the lights didn't work, so we needed a torch to pack and unpack. The receptionist couldn't sort it out. Remember a torch if you travel here 😉 Also, the hotels.com listing doesn't explain all the hotel's features.

The room was a mess from the moment we walked in, with a horrible smell like something had died. The bathroom had no ventilation, and the toilet seat was still dirty from the previous guests. The bed was so small that turning over in your sleep felt like a risk. For what we paid, it felt like a rip-off. I rarely post negative reviews, but I want people to know about the reception experience too. I reported that the lock couldn't be secured from inside, so anyone might be able to walk in while we were asleep. The receptionist brushed it off rudely in front of other guests and wouldn't even get out of his chair. It was completely disrespectful and unprofessional. If safety, comfort, and dignity matter to you, I'd stay away. Tallinn is beautiful, but this hotel lets down its hospitality industry.

Mike was really helpful. I left my bank card in the room, and the staff got in touch so it could be returned. The location in the old town is lovely, and for a budget stay the price is quite decent. I'll definitely come back.
