Hestia Hotel Barons Old Town

The location makes it easy to explore the old town on foot, and the new town is close too. I’d happily return to Tallin on my next visit, hopefully before long. The woman at reception was very helpful, and the lobby was a nice spot to take a break between outings. Our room had a lovely medieval town view, and the building itself is beautiful and historic. The room was quaint and the bed comfortable. Breakfast was very good, with a full English and Continental spread as well as local dishes. There were even roasted potatoes and vegetables and meatballs. I only missed having berries with the porridge or pancakes, like they do in Finland.

The rooms were clean, and the staff were warm and polite. The location is very good, though sleep was a real struggle: young people were drinking and shouting outside, and the noise carried on until around 7 am at the weekend. The safe is outside the room. Very good location, very good location.

The location is great, just a minute or two from the heart of the old town. We’d stay here again, even in the annex, which may actually have been quieter than the main building and suited us. We hadn’t realized when booking that the hotel has two separate buildings. The annex is very close by, but being placed there did feel a bit isolating. Having to go outside for breakfast was a hassle on holiday. The room was comfortable, with a spacious bathroom, separate bath and shower, strong water pressure, and a comfortable bed. The heating was frustrating: it got far too hot at odd times, and although there was a control panel in the room, it didn’t work. Service wasn’t rude, but felt curt and very businesslike, so the hotel didn’t come across as especially friendly.

The location was the one good thing. The hotel itself fell well below standard, with poor service starting at the manager. Our room was not cleaned well and felt outdated, and the hallway had a very musty smell. The breakfast was among the worst I’ve had at a hotel. There were also serious room problems: a broken fridge ruined medication and food in one room, while the heating didn’t work in another.
