Rixwell Viru Square Hotel

The location is spot on, right in the heart of the Old Town and close to lots of restaurants. We had a nice room and were upgraded to the sauna room, which was a bonus. Breakfast was okay too. The bed wasn't especially comfortable, so four stars from me.

I was a bit wary after reading the poor reviews, but I had a delightful stay at the Rixwell. The room was clean and spacious, with a mini fridge, and I could set the heat where I wanted, which matters in winter. I've stayed in places that were too hot or too cold. I also didn't hear any doors slamming, so an extra point for that. The main drawback is being near a night club. Rooms sharing its wall pick up bass and cheering until 1-2 AM. It didn't keep me awake, but it bothered my friend. The hotel has parking and is near the taxi/Uber/Bolt dropoff point at Burger King. Forus Takso taxis are the only ones allowed up to the entrance. Reception is open 24 hours for late arrivals or emergencies, breakfast is free from 7 AM to 11 AM, and the reception staff were always helpful. I'd stay here again when I return to Tallinn.

Housekeeping was a mess during my January 14-22 stay at Rixwell Square Hotel. My room was often left dirty, the bed unmade, and toiletries weren't replaced even with the cleaning sign out. When someone did come in, it didn't look like they'd used any cleaning supplies. The carpets were heavily stained and smelled of cigarettes, and the hotel felt dated with no modern amenities. Breakfast had poor quality and little variety, even though there are much better choices nearby. Some staff were rude and unprofessional, and I felt unwelcome. Most concerning, staff refused to help after a food delivery driver assaulted me on the premises, which raised serious safety concerns. There are much better places nearby, especially in Old Town. I'd strongly recommend booking elsewhere.

The lower-priced rooms are a little lacking, but they're clean and fine for a simple overnight stay, with somewhat older furniture and a shower. The central Old Town location and private parking made the stay safe and convenient.
