The staff were accommodating and did their best to help us, but they can’t fix the building’s basic design problem. There’s a persistent odor of garbage, cigarette smoke, and what seems to be marijuana. The shared ventilation appears to be the cause. Kitchen range hoods all connect to one duct, so when a tenant cooks or smokes and runs theirs, contaminated air gets pushed into other apartments. It became a serious issue on our last night. Around 1:00 AM, a strong smell of smoke and garbage suddenly filled our apartment. I was awake and turned on our range hood right away to create counter-pressure and block the air. If I’d been asleep, my family would have breathed it in all night, essentially becoming passive smokers. I can only imagine how many other guests slept through the same exposure without knowing. The staff can’t resolve this structural issue, but the shared ventilation is a real health and comfort concern that potential guests should know about before booking.

We had everything we needed in this well-located apartment, including a small hotplate, pans, and glasses. The reception staff were very friendly and let us leave our luggage before check-in. It’s also a great base for exploring the old town.
