I went to Tallin alone for a quick, budget trip, and this turned into my worst travel experience. The low price didn’t make up for it. The bathroom wasn’t clean, the hall smelled strange, and the other guests made me uneasy. Maybe it was my first time in a hostel, but I’d never experienced anything like this before. Around 2 a.m. I woke to loud artificial sounds, the kind Google censors, though I couldn’t tell if they were coming from the hall, the next room, or the shared toilet across from my so-called room. The walls were paper thin. Someone also tried the door handle twice while I was asleep, which frightened me, especially since I was on my own. I decided to book another hotel and leave in the middle of the night. There was police at the hostel, and nobody would tell me what had happened. The next day the owner replied to my message and explained, but that only confirmed my impression that the guests were mostly shady people. The location was the only plus, along with the owner responding quickly. The price is low, but I wouldn’t say it’s worth anything unless you’re a shady individual or want to hear censored sounds from drunk or smashed people in the middle of the night.

We weren’t told how to get into the property, so we had to call. They gave us a code for the basement entrance, and our room key was left inside the room. The room itself was tiny, with a lot of useless furniture, and two people were expected to share one mattress that had been advertised as a double. It’s a basement refuge for middle-aged men on their own, drunk people, and teenagers, with around 15 rooms sharing one bathroom. The bathroom looked like a pigsty, and a woman came by once in the morning to clean it. There’s no reception or staff, and the place felt unsafe throughout our stay. The basement isn’t soundproof, so you hear the hallway and street. The kitchen is cramped, and half-naked men make food there late at night. A drunk man came in and fell asleep on a hallway sofa. We told the owner, who came over and sold him a room instead of making him leave. If you’re a woman traveling alone or a couple, I’d strongly avoid this place. If you’re a half-naked drunk man, it might be paradise.

There’s one toilet for all the rooms, and it stays dirty all day. Most of the guests seemed to be drunken older men who wandered around naked. A drunk guy got into the hostel somehow, even though the door needs a code. I could barely sleep during my three nights here. The owner sold him a room instead of kicking him out. It was a horrible, filthy, unsafe place. Please avoid it, especially if you’re a woman or a family.

I expected a scary, ugly basement after reading the reviews, but was pleasantly surprised. For 30 euros, I got two beds, a TV, a lockable spot for my things, a nice mirror, and my own shower, toilet, and sink. There was even some 3-in-1 shampoo, maybe left by another guest, but I didn’t mind. The place was quite clean, well ventilated, and the internet was fairly fast. The other guests were quiet, and I didn’t use the shared kitchen. A couple of things were off: the bathroom door had marks like someone had punched it, which you could call underground style, and the sink looked like it might fall off. Otherwise, it was really nice. I’d come back ♥️

The photos are misleading. The bathroom is shared, not private, and the hygiene is terrible. The staff were very unfriendly. I wouldn’t stay here even if it were free, and if I could give it minus five stars, I would.
