The von Stackelberg Hotel Tallinn

The only thing I appreciated was the location, about a 15-minute walk from the Old Town. Tallinn itself is a wonderful city, which made this disappointing stay even more of a letdown. I found the hotel unpleasant and would avoid the Von Stackelberg. We arrived around midnight and were told our British Airways booking had been cancelled. We had to call BA to sort it out, and it seemed to be a clerical mistake by the hotel. The receptionist showed us the room but didn't offer to help with our bags, so we carried them up three flights of stairs late at night. Our deluxe suite felt tired and dated. The bathroom smelled of sewage throughout our stay, even after repeated cleaning, and I suspect there was a problem with the pipes. If we left the bathroom door open, the odor reached the bedroom. The soundproofing was poor as well, so there were nighttime disturbances and little privacy. On several days the restaurant was closed without warning, and I wish breakfast had started an hour earlier. The breakfast choices were limited and the quality was disappointing. The phone in our room was broken, so I couldn't reach reception or the restaurant for room service, and the restaurant's outside line didn't work either.

We had such a pleasant stay on our wedding day. The atmosphere was beautiful and romantic, and the rooms were clean. The food was good, the spa and treatments were relaxing, and the staff were helpful. The location was good too, and all our needs were taken care of. Thank you, we'll definitely visit again!

After a long workday, we reached the hotel exhausted at 11:45 PM. We'd booked a four-star room for three adult men and clearly asked for three separate beds. Instead, the room had one double bed and a sofa bed, exactly the setup we were hoping to avoid. We went straight to reception, then spent 45 frustrating minutes waiting and explaining the problem. We were told to find another hotel or pay extra for another room. We were angry and disappointed. We expected more respect and service from a four-star hotel. The next morning, they offered us a 10% discount. It felt like an insult, not an apology. Money wasn't the point. We wanted the hotel to honor what was promised in the reservation. We turned down the discount on principle, but by then the stay was already ruined. The hotel may meet the four-star checklist on paper, but the way it treated guests and handled the problem felt more like a cheap hostel. The whole experience was a major disappointment.

My partner and I had such a lovely stay. A really charming hotel, close to the old town.
