Dorpat Hotel

Great hotel and AMAZING staff! I broke my foot and had to stay longer in Tartu. It was an emergency, so I showed up after midnight without a reservation. They gave me a room close to the elevator and helped me with everything. At breakfast, three staff members saw that I couldn’t carry a plate and brought me everything from the buffet without me even having to ask. They just smiled and took care of it. Four days later, they were still going above and beyond. The breakfast staff were just as kind, and the room-cleaning team helped open the windows because I could barely move. I spoke with three or four receptionists, and every one went out of their way to help. Erik even picked up my suitcase from the cargobus terminal because I couldn’t get it myself, and Anna-Liisa carried all my bags to the taxi on a SUPER cold night. I’m so grateful I happened to find this hotel during such a hard time. They made everything so much easier for me :)

The hotel has a lot going for it: friendly, helpful staff this time, a good breakfast, nice views, and a great spot beside the river and modern shopping centres. There’s free, secure parking you can reach from inside, working Wi-Fi, plenty of TV channels, room service, and pets are welcome. I also appreciated the extra touches, like being able to have a bottle of wine waiting in the room. I’d come back. Room service was a letdown. Delivery from the hotel restaurant cost 10 euros, and the food arrived cold and was only average. They accepted cash only, which I wasn’t told before ordering. You have to make an international call to place an order, even though the restaurant is inside the hotel, and I couldn’t call reception from my room either. There was no free water, and the room bottles were close to 2 euros each.

The front desk manager refused to help when I complained that the room was stiflingly hot and the air conditioning didn’t work. There was a stale, disgusting smell that made it hard to breathe. The place also felt unsanitary, with a depressing, outdated interior that seemed poorly maintained and untouched since Soviet-era Estonia. I strongly advise against staying here. If you want to spoil someone’s mood or vacation, book them a night. Truly disappointing. Hello. Who says I have to use my passport name on Google? That’s the first point. Second, I suggest you, or someone your staff doesn’t know, stay here as a regular guest. You’ll understand without a word. There was no free water, and parking was only for paying customers. The breakfast spread had plenty of choice, though I found the taste just average. My wife loved the smoothie.
