The bedbugs made it impossible to sleep. After I told the administrator, he called a disinfection service to treat our room, but there were no other rooms for us to move to, and the treatment didn’t get rid of them completely. We were given insect spray, and each night around 3 AM we ended up hunting the little red bugs because the itching was so bad. I heard this problem affected some other Viljandi hotels too. I can only guess at the cause, and the hotel had also hosted Ukrainian refugees. I’m giving two stars rather than one because the administrator did try to help. I understand the hotel may not have caused the problem and that it’s hard to fix quickly, but the risk was already known. Extra cleaning or disinfection, and much better overall cleanliness, could have helped. There were some good points: the hotel is in a quiet, countryside-like part of town, and it felt cozy. The administrator was friendly, the balcony was nice, water pressure was good compared with other places, and the smart TV had YouTube and films. But the walls and furniture were old and dirty. There was no shower cabin, so water covered the whole bathroom floor. Breakfast was poor, with little choice and the cheapest ingredients. It seemed the friendly administrator was the only staff member, doing everything from cleaning and cooking to gardening, and maybe even owning the place. One person can’t take care of it all.
