Uma Kuup Guest Apartments

It's a great value for the central location, close to the central square and Catherine’s boulevard. The building is a bit run down but clean, and gives foreigners a look at what Soviet-era apartment buildings were like. Staff are friendly, though the walls don't block much sound and the piping is weird.

The rooms are pretty small and don't look great, and the windows don't open properly. The bathrooms and toilets are shared with four other rooms, in my case, and they're uncomfortable, worn out, and in bad shape.

Most of the other floors looked nice and had no issues, but our room wasn't cleaned for four days. On the fourth floor, a window was falling out, the shower was awful and seemed uncleaned, the sink was coming loose, and the water kept switching between cold and hot. On the third floor, a nightstand was broken. There was also a drunk man who hit our doors, and people warned us about him. All in all, it was kind of good.

I like staying here the night before the Võhandu Marathon. The reception people are very nice, and if you're coming during a busy event, it's best to book early.
