Fouad Hotel

I know it isn’t a five-star hotel, but since when is warm water a premium service? If you’re visiting Alexandria before the weather warms up, be ready for cold showers.

The location is great, and the balconies have sea views. The rooms, though, weren’t very clean, and water kept spilling across the bathroom. There was no air conditioning. I didn’t feel welcome at all. The staff were the worst part, awful, disrespectful, and unprofessional. I didn’t get a single smile from the man at reception. Honestly, it was the worst hotel I’ve stayed at in Egypt.

The sea view through the huge old doors, along with the balcony and breeze, is what I loved most. Even in August it was comfortable. Our room was fairly clean and comfortable, with a fridge. The building is a romantic colonial Moorish monstrosity, with two courtyards and a Victorian “lift” that felt sketchy but came in handy. Ramel Station is right there, and so are shops, restaurants, and access to everything. The downside is the traffic on the corniche. It was incredibly loud all night, every night. We got used to it and still had a lovely six-day stay, and I’d do it again, but be prepared for the noise. There was a fan that I’m sure would have helped us stay cool without as much noise, but it was so filthy that I didn’t even turn it on.

The rooms are modern and clean, with comfortable beds and a great shower. Staff were friendly, the sea view was lovely, and the hotel is in a central location.
