Nubian Kindom Aragheed House

We came by for a visit and had a wonderful evening. The house is quaint and beautiful, and everyone we met was lovely. We sat on the roof with tea and delicious coffee that had been freshly roasted over coal and ground. The view takes in the ancient ruins of Al-Hawa as well as the home’s lovely open courtyard. They also put on live music sessions and arrange local tours, sandboarding and other activities. The people here are the best part, and I’d recommend a visit to anyone in the area.

Aragheed House felt like a retreat, and I left with a fuller heart. Each night, we listened to traditional music and were invited to join in, which was a real blessing. Bassam is kind and grounded, with a hugely generous spirit. The welcome gave us a genuine glimpse into village life and the kindness and generosity of the Nubian community. This was the highlight of my trip to Egypt. I hope I can return soon, and I can’t recommend the place enough.

Quiet and almost surreal, the accommodation is surrounded by dunes and the tombs of the noble, with beautiful surroundings all around. The ferry is cheap and easy to use, and the hosts arranged a reasonably priced pickup for us from the train when we arrived. They also serve delicious meals for a reasonable fee. Bassam and his family were very welcoming and generous with their time and knowledge. One of the highlights of our trip.

The rooftop has sand floors and a really communal feel. Staying here means experiences you couldn’t get just anywhere: life in a Nubian village, meals with locals and singing songs together. Bassam is an amazing host. I’d highly recommend it, you won’t forget the experience.
