Sun City Hotel - The Gabriel

I was worried about getting scammed, so I booked here. Finding the entrance was easy, and the staff were friendly and helped me even though I didn’t tip. I left my luggage with the hotel for a day and got it back intact. The room was decent, a bit old but usable, and the shower gels were nice. I liked the place.

The hotel smelled old and bad, and the rooms were dirty. It looked nothing like the website, and I never saw a pool. They also didn’t have American plug sockets. The service was bad, so I asked to cancel my booking. They agreed, but after I got back to the States they denied having offered that and tricked me.

I couldn’t have picked a better place to wait for my flight home, with The Gabriel Hotel near the airport grounds. It was my first time staying at this beautiful 5 star hotel in Cairo, Egypt, and the service and setting were outstanding. I’d highly recommend this luxury hotel to anyone visiting Cairo.

The breakfast was very middle of the road, and the room carpets looked dated. I even found a hair in the bathtub, so housekeeping could have done better. The neighborhood itself is calm, and the location is good. From outside, the place looks nice. The staff seemed young and inexperienced, and stared at us constantly. They kept repeating the rules as though we were children. I told them once was enough to understand the rules they enforce in Egypt. I wouldn’t recommend staying here unless you’re traveling on a budget, and then for no more than two nights.
