Dahab Lagoon Club & Resort

The grounds are spacious, with plenty of water sports available, and the beach is lovely: sandy, with clear, sheltered water that’s great for swimming. We had a wonderful stay at the Lagoon hotel. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and went out of their way to take care of what we needed.

The downsides were hard to miss in my room. The air conditioner was loud even on its lowest fan setting, and dust from the resort’s new building work had gathered at my doorstep and on the balcony. My room was in a six-room cluster right in front of the construction. There was barely any noise, but closing those six rooms until the work is done would avoid the dust problem. Lunch was a poor deal for me too: I hadn’t booked it, went to the restaurant when I was hungry, and added the cost to my checkout bill, but the choices were limited and lacked some traditional Egyptian dishes. I spent three nights in a sea-view superior room. I picked this location because it’s a bit farther from downtown Dahab, while still within walking distance. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, and the shower was good. The internet worked very well throughout the room and resort. Breakfast was enjoyable, if not outstanding. There’s direct access to the sea and a great view, two pools, a large area for walks, and a couple of bars. A small shop sells beach essentials and can arrange transport. The gym is small and set in a hut, but functional and well equipped. Staff were nice when approached, though they didn’t seem very proactive about noticing when someone needed help. I’d recommend it if you’re after the beach, sun and mountains, with a quieter place to relax.

The evening show was enjoyable and worked for all ages, though there wasn’t much to do during the day. We were on half board, with breakfast and dinner, and the food was tasty and varied compared with other Dahab hotels I’ve stayed at. I especially liked the Egyptian dishes and grilled food. One odd thing: hot drinks weren’t included with dinner. I haven’t come across that before at hotels in Dahab, Sharm El Sheikh, or Hurghada. If you get hungry during the day, you can buy snacks at a supermarket in Dahab center and keep them in the room fridge. We got our room straight away when we arrived at 12:30 pm. Mr. Ahmed from reception had contacted us beforehand to get it ready, and the staff were polite and friendly. They also gave us a free upgrade. The room was clean and good, with a very nice bathroom. Its terrace looked over a big garden and the sea, a lovely spot to sit with tea in the afternoon. The loud air conditioner was my only room complaint. Housekeeping checked in every day to see if we needed anything. Special thanks to Mr. Ibrahim for the good service. The hotel is calm and comfortable, right by the lagoon, about 3 km from Dahab center. Its big beach stretches roughly 1000 meters from the start of the lagoon, and you can walk along it to nearby hotels. The clear, calm water feels like a swimming pool in the sea and suits both adults and children. The location, beach, food, and helpful staff made it a good place to relax and enjoy Dahab. Staff usually didn’t start conversations, but were friendly and polite when we spoke to them.

The hotel looks lovely and has a great view, which makes the poor service all the more disappointing. Reception staff weren’t friendly, and housekeeping only did the floor and bed. They left a dirty duvet cover in place instead of changing it. One of my worst stays.
