I was worried that a room facing busy El-Tahrir Street would be noisy, but the rooms start on the sixth floor and it was quiet. The next day, management offered me a better room overlooking the backyard for the same price, with Western TV and everything. They were very friendly, answered my requests, and spoke good English. It felt like home somewhere in NJ. For the price, this is a great place to stay for three days. It’s only one metro stop from Tahrir Square, and the National Museum is there too, full of ancient objects I’d never seen or imagined, including 3,000-year-old flutes, mummies, beautiful stone faces of Egyptian princesses, and my favorites, the portraits of the Fayum mummies. The Cairo National Opera is within walking distance and is a must if there’s a performance. I saw the Chinese Ballet there, an amazing experience and a real bit of globalization. The location is excellent, just a few steps from the Nile River and a wonderful restaurant on the bank. It’s a quiet place for breakfast or lunch if you’d rather eat there than have the decent hotel breakfast. It isn’t a 5-star hotel, but it’s great value for travelers on a budget.

One of us was unwell, and we urgently needed a room on 1st January. They let us check in early and provided breakfast. The hospitality was unmatched, and it was absolutely worth the money.

It’s a very quiet hotel in a great spot next to the river and not too far from the pyramids. The rooms are a good size. It’s not Hilton, but you get what you pay for. There was much more breakfast than we could eat, and the homemade fries were delicious, nothing like the frozen kind you get in the UK. The bread was so good too, along with the cheese, salads, and fruit. Ask Mr Sami for Turkish coffee. He made us feel welcome every time we came down for breakfast, and even brought fruit up to our room because there was so much food. He’s a very kind person. All the staff were kind and ready to help with everything, from arranging a taxi to booking a dinner cruise on the river.

The rooms are spacious and clean, the parking lot is good, and the internet is free and fast. Staff are extremely friendly, the restaurants are excellent, and prices aren’t high. Highly recommended.

The location is very good, and it’s acceptable for a budget stay, though I wouldn’t want to return. My wife and I visited in 2010, before the unhappy events of the violent revolution. I was surprised to find that they had even faked the picture of the building where the hotel is located. They did it with Photoshop, sic!
