Hassan Pyramids Hotel

A budget stay with a good Pyramid view. The front desk is staffed around the clock, so even arriving late, I could still get help. Most of the staff are young and have a good attitude, and they didn’t ask for tips. My room was spacious, but dusty and sandy, and it faced the main street so there was some noise. The air-conditioning cooled well and the shower worked fine. Breakfast was the one disappointment.

The roof terrace has fantastic pyramid views, and we had a tasty Egyptian breakfast up there. There’s also a little shop next door for water and snacks. After our very long train journey, we arrived late, and the owner kindly helped us order food online. Everyone was so friendly, the warmest people we met in Egypt, and they went out of their way to make us comfortable. I can’t praise them enough. Our room was clean, with a big bed, good quality new furniture, a fridge and a kettle. I’d definitely recommend Hassan Pyramids hotel to anyone staying in Giza.

Hot water worked, and I suppose the room was generally clean, but one bed had a large stain on the sheets. Compared with other hotels I stayed at in Egypt, this was the worst and greatly overpriced. Cairo and Giza hotels do seem to have much lower standards, so I imagine you could find worse, especially when so many places don’t seem to care and have fake reviews. The place doesn’t look like the pictures. The entrance is run down, and the rooms are showing their age and aren’t as nice as the photos. My balcony door wouldn’t lock. Breakfast on the first morning was just hard bread with processed cheese and meat; the second morning we got a full breakfast, with no explanation for the difference. The WiFi didn’t work, and the owner said it had been shut off. I was also owed some change after paying cash for the room, but the promised “tomorrow” never came. Sadly, that seems typical in Egypt.

We were charged a “commissionable fee” of $10 USD for two days. We looked it up, and it does seem to match tourist taxes, but I wish we’d known in advance. The lobby is unassuming, while the rooms and views are phenomenal. We had a corner room where you could see the pyramids from the shower. The rooftop views were great and breakfast was delicious. The shower leaks a bit, so put towels down.
