On January 8, we arrived around 1:30 a.m. and found our first room in poor condition, with hair on the bathroom floor and a broken toilet brush. After I showered, the drain backed up and flooded the room. Maintenance came, but instead of offering another room, they unclogged the shower and mopped while we waited to sleep until about 2:30 a.m. The flooding happened again after our day of sightseeing. My partner noticed before it reached the bedroom, and a supervisor came. He removed the drain cover and shower head, poured water into the drain, and said it worked. But using the shower normally made water back up and leak through the screen. He said I couldn’t use it for the rest of the day and that he’d return to apply silicone, which is unacceptable for a hotel of this category. The hotel finally agreed to change our room, but nobody organized it. I went to reception, was told someone would come right away, waited 15 minutes, then returned with our luggage. The staff member gave us keys without an apology and acted unprofessionally. In the second room, an extra bed we hadn’t requested took up space. Technical faults can happen; the lack of professionalism, concern, and basic courtesy in handling them made the stay unacceptable and far below Hyatt Regency standards.

We picked this hotel for its amenities and location, close enough for a short cab ride to the plateau or GEM, but a quieter break from the noise and chaos downtown. The rooms are very clean, and the staff have been welcoming and helpful. Ali at the front desk deserves a mention for making our last day much easier to manage.

The grounds were beautiful and very well kept, and we caught them putting up Christmas decorations. Our rooms were basic but had a mini fridge and a welcome kit with tasty treats, including some local to Egypt. The lounge had plenty of little snacks and drinks even for our picky eaters, and breakfast offered lots of choice. Staff from reception and security to the bell team, waiters, and manager were consistently welcoming. They checked in by phone and arranged a breakfast box for our early departure. The pool is lovely and heated, a nice place to relax on a quiet day. It’s a comfortable family stay if you want to get away from the noise and smells around Cairo and the pyramids. The hotel feels safe, with several checkpoints and baggage screening before you enter, and it’s only a short drive from the pyramids. We had a wonderful stay and recommend it.

I requested a quiet room away from elevators when booking, but was given room 2314, just a few meters from a staff elevator. It ran all night, making a loud, sharp noise each time it stopped, and I barely slept. The next morning, breakfast was overcrowded with few seats and no waiter came over, so I got my own tea. It was disappointing, at best 3/5, and below Hyatt standards. When I asked to move and reminded reception of my original request, the staff seemed unhappy and moved me to room 2222, which connected to 2223 through a door. On the second night I could clearly hear the neighbors talking and using the bathroom, including showering, as if they were in my room. I had an early flight and again couldn’t rest properly. The young male receptionists said they couldn’t control other guests’ conversations. That may be true, but this level of sound insulation and room assignment is unacceptable for a Hyatt of this category. After two sleepless nights, I left with little comfort or service from the well-known brand and won’t return.

Being away from the motorway keeps traffic noise down, and tour operators can easily pick you up and drop you off. Hyatt Regency Cairo West is close to sphinx airport and the grand Egyptian museum, in a very secure area with good rooms, amenities, and service. Staff are courteous, there are two or three restaurant options, two ATMs, and a good pool. There’s also an in-house travel agent, though very expensive, and they respond quickly to complaints. You can see the pyramids from the poolside deck, so I wouldn’t pay extra for a pyramid-view room, especially since it’s often hazy. I had a great stay and recommend staying in Giza over Cairo to avoid the daily traffic and chaos.
