Sphinx Guest House

We had no issues with the room, and the shower had good hot water and decent pressure. The Wi-Fi wasn’t great, which seems fairly normal in Egypt, so getting an eSIM is definitely a good idea. Although the rooms are on level 2, reception came down to help with our luggage. We booked through Booking.com and weren’t asked for any extra charges. The location is excellent, directly across from the Pyramids, the Sphinx, and the old Sphinx entrance. You can get in early when it opens and go straight to the Sphinx. At the complex entrance, head directly to the ticket gate or checkpoint and ignore anyone trying to lead you elsewhere. The rooftop terrace was amazing for sunrise and sunset. On Friday or Saturday nights you can see the Light and Sound Show from there. The show itself was pretty bland and not especially impressive, but staying here saves the USD $25 entry fee, which we don’t think is worth paying anyway. Breakfast was a standard Egyptian spread: bread, cold meats and cheese, boiled eggs, and omelettes made to order. The fresh falafels and omelettes were very good, and coffee and tea were available. Since the guest house is outside the Pyramids area, local vendors will approach you with souvenirs and taxi rides, though it’s easy enough to ignore them. There are small shops nearby for chips and soft drinks, handy to have while watching the sunset from the roof.

The people were friendly, and they can provide breakfast early. Right by the pyramid entrance, the guest house has a great view of the sphinx. The room internet was poor and there wasn’t a hair dryer, which is tricky in winter. Being so close to the pyramids also means being beside an extremely noisy street, with noise at all hours of the night.

We stayed a couple of nights and found the room comfortable, with fresh, filling breakfast. You can also bring your own food and eat with the pyramids as the backdrop. The room and terrace views are breathtaking, easily the best part of staying at Guardian Guest House – Giza. From the terrace you can even watch the Sound & Light show, though the show itself is just okay. If being right beside the Pyramids of Giza matters to you, it’s a great base for exploring Giza and worth the stay for the view alone.

The owners and family were so friendly, and Guardian guest house went out of their way to accommodate us for our honeymoon. We had an amazing three nights right next to the entrance to the pyramids. You can bring your own food and drinks upstairs to enjoy, and I don’t think you can find a better view in Giza. Thanks again!
