Merryland Hotel Luxor

If you want a budget stay with good service and a good experience, this hotel is a great option. The rooftop, where breakfast is served and a full menu is available 24/7, has one of Luxor’s best views, though there aren’t rooms with a seaside view. Breakfast was quite good, and from our window I enjoyed seeing the Muslim boys school, a cultural takeaway. The hotel is in a prime location, and the kind staff all speak good English. Magdi, the manager, was especially attentive. When our room lock caused a problem, he moved us to another room straight away. They were supportive when we asked to extend our stay and when we later chose not to extend it for a third day. They also arranged helpful tips and other services.

The bathrooms and rooms could use some maintenance, but for the price the service is excellent. The staff were really kind and helpful. After I checked out, I’d left my camera in the room, and they contacted me and returned it safely. That was very honest and professional. I’d recommend the hotel.

The service was a bright spot: everyone was smiling, generous, hospitable, and very cooperative, and they made me feel like a welcome guest. The food was nice, though not the best. The room itself was a terrible experience. It was untidy and stuffy, with no ventilation, and the bathroom was so cramped that I had to hug the sink while sitting on the toilet. There was no refrigerator, microwave, or stove, and the only AC was a terrible window unit, not a split AC. Hot water was barely warm and only available at certain times.

I stayed for three nights with my dad. The rooftop view is what makes this hotel worthwhile, since the rooms don’t have a Nile view. Our room was clean, the staff were kind, and the price was good. They welcomed us with drinks and explained useful things about the city. I’d definitely recommend it.
