Kareem, the manager, was very helpful, and Khalid and his son Ahmed made our visit especially nice. The room was clean and comfortable, with a lovely bath, and we enjoyed the tasty breakfasts. This is an older establishment, around 50 years old, in a good spot for exploring the Valley of the Kings area. It’s a little far from the downtown Luxor corniche, though Uber taxis can take you there for about 50-150 Egyptian pounds. The resort was landscaped beautifully some 20 years ago, and it’s still a lush, peaceful place. Major refurbishments are planned for this year, along with an organic food restaurant linked with organic farmers, which should be a welcome addition. Highly recommended.

Khaled and Karim were exceptional: kind, attentive, respectful, and always available to help me feel at ease. Their warmth made it feel like staying with friends. As a solo traveler, I felt safe, comfortable, and welcome from the moment I arrived. The place gave me a beautiful, unstaged glimpse of everyday Egyptian life, with honest food, quiet mornings, and a close connection to nature and daily rhythms. It’s simple and grounded, not luxurious, but that’s part of what made it special. Sekhmet Retreat Center offers a peaceful, authentic experience, especially for solo travelers looking for calm, connection, and meaning. I left feeling grounded, safe, and deeply grateful. Highly recommended.

We were sad enough to tear up when it was time to leave. Kareem, Khaled, Ahmad, and Youssef always seemed to know what we needed before we asked, and the prices were more than fair. The hospitality is what made the stay special. We played football and dominoes, enjoyed the pool and breakfast, learned some Arabic, and taught them a few English words. The area is quiet and away from the crowds. We’ll be back and will tell people about it.

The evenings in the Bedouin tent were a highlight. We laughed a lot and were served tea and snacks so warmly. The breakfast was simple but delicious and filling, with an omelette, Egyptian bread, bean paste, cream cheese, butter, yogurt, and juice. We felt at home here, which was exactly what we wanted. The place is quiet, the beds are very comfortable, and everything was perfectly clean. It isn’t a five-star luxury hotel, but the atmosphere is warm and heartfelt. The staff and hotel manager were incredibly kind and attentive, and every wish we had was taken care of. We were touched by the beauty of the Segment Center from the start, with its round roofs, starry views, peaceful atmosphere, and lovingly cared-for garden. We’ll definitely return. Thank you for such a warm welcome.

The main issue was one worker’s chaotic fixation, which continued for months after our trip. I’m gutted I can’t give Sekhmet five stars because of it. If he still works here, as a woman I’d strongly advise against staying. The rest of the staff made the visit pleasant. They were welcoming, helpful, and courteous. One came with us to the shop next door because he knew they might overcharge us, and they had done so before. Everyone was happy to chat and share their experiences and life there. The dinner was divine, and the cheerful chef showed me around the kitchen and explained how he made the dishes. Cats and a dog were around the eating area. I love animals, and staff will shoo them away if you don’t want them near. Breakfast was the same each morning, a lovely little omelette, bread, and some other things we didn’t eat, salty beans and cheese. Ali was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. He recommended taxi drivers we felt safe with. There was a hole in the bath or shower in our first room, but they moved us to another one immediately. This isn’t a luxury or boutique hotel. We loved the decor and authentic feel of a real Egyptian stay. If you’re a man, or if that individual has left, give Sekhmet a chance to see real Egyptian life.
