Hotel De La Poste

The room was really bad. The furniture was awful, and the blankets weren’t clean.

This historic hotel had character, even with its creaky floorboards. We paid extra for triple room 207, and the added space and two balconies were worth it. One morning we spotted a tanker from the window. The staff were lovely, and we got by using a translator. Downstairs or outside was a nice place to sit for coffee and breakfast, with falafel, bread, cheeses, and beans. There’s a small takeaway falafel place down the road, and the sea is just a three-minute walk away. The WiFi didn’t work, but I could get hot water for coffee downstairs.

The location was the best thing about it, although it isn’t near the canal or the beach. Breakfast was awful: the food smelled so bad it could make you vomit, and the cups were very dirty. The rooms are okay for a quick visit, but if you’re staying more than one night, look elsewhere. There are plenty of other hotels around.

Fine for one night, convenient and clean enough, though there’s no luxury. There were no tissues in the room or toilet. Towels were provided, and there was one soap. The price felt a little high for what you get, but locals told me that’s normal in Port Said.
