Hotel Edelweiss Candanchu

The room has a wide, open view, and the hotel itself was clean and comfortable. The front desk and service staff were very polite. I’d happily come back next time.

While hiking the HRP in June, I couldn’t find anywhere open to charge my phone. I wasn’t staying at this hotel, but the owners kindly let me come in even though they were closed for June, and she even offered me tea for free. Muchos gracias to the lovely owners! 🙏

For something presented as luxury, this was dreadful. The minibar was empty, and there wasn’t even a bottle of welcoming water on a 40degC day. No AC, no fan, and no help. This old, tired hotel badly needs some loving care.

Breakfast was a frustrating start. We weren’t allowed to sit by the scenic windows because those tables were set for lunch. Another family made a fuss and got to sit there, but the servers did so with huge eye rolls and muttered complaints. The place wasn’t even that busy, and it was only the start of the season. I can only imagine what a busy season would be like. We also never got an answer about cheese fondue. The receptionist said she’d ask the kitchen and it should be fine, but when we checked five hours later, around dinner time, reception said they’d forgotten to ask. That left us hunting for a restaurant that wasn’t booked up. The rooms were uncomfortably hot, and when we asked about turning down the heat, we were told they couldn’t adjust it for individual rooms. On top of that, the decor was very old and smelly, and the walls were so thin we could hear everything in other rooms and the hallways. All in all, it was a terrible experience, and I can’t recommend this hotel in good conscience.
