Villa Carmen

The house sits far enough from town and the road that we mostly heard nature. The beach and town were only a five-minute drive away. It’s a charming, well-kept Indian house, with roomy bedrooms, a really comfortable bed, and a crib supplied at no extra cost. The owner was friendly and attentive while giving us space, and housekeeping was good. There’s no bar or restaurant, just breakfast, which is served in the garden in summer. It was a generous spread: juice, fruit, jam, muffins, bread, cold cuts, cheese, eggs made to order, coffee, and milk. The garden has citrus-grove views from several terraces, plus hammocks and spots to sunbathe. There are tables and chairs for drinks or dinner if you bring your own. The one thing I missed was a pool in a corner of the garden.
