Masia La Mota

The hotel and rooms were lovely, and breakfast was nice. We also got a free bottle of fantastic olive oil. Since the restaurant was closed, we had to drive into town every day. A few details could be better: the TVs are tiny, and we had a long walk with our suitcase because the closer car park is reserved for the owner’s family.

The place is beautiful, but my boyfriend and I had a really unpleasant stay. We’d driven from Barcelona for somewhere to relax, but construction right outside our window woke us up. Loud men were talking too, and it went on from 8am-6pm. We had to leave for most of the day to get away from the noise and the painful headache it caused. We also had a bad experience at breakfast after leaving the house just after the meal. The lady was rude, and the breakfast was terrible. The cook was only going to give us toast, ham, and cheese. When I asked about eggs, she said she’d need to check with the owner if making them was okay. It was the worst breakfast I had in all Spain. The owner never checked in to see if we were okay or needed anything. On checkout day we left early without breakfast, packed up, and went. We’ll never come back or recommend this B&B. It was far from the kind of traditional B&B where guests are treated with love and care.

The food at Masia La Mota was AH-MAY-ZING. I was sorry to leave without trying every dessert on the menu. During my four days there, I saw options for romantic getaways, family fun, and outdoor activities like horseback riding, trekking, and hiking. My boyfriend loves the outdoors, while I hate bugs and dirt, but this hotel really had something for both of us. There’s a salt water pool that did wonders for my hair and skin, breathtaking views, and friendly staff and caring owners. Everyone seemed to care about how guests spent their time, and one owner even came over to say hello at dinner. Set between two natural parks, it’s also close to Via Verde in Alcoy and a short trip from Valencia and Alicante. I found it hard to leave and would recommend it for a family weekend or romantic getaway. There’s incredible history around this beautiful location too. Definitely worth seeing.

The setting is so peaceful, and the hotel has been refurbished beautifully, with care put into every detail. Guillermo was a pleasure to meet and chat with. He worked hard to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The pool was lovely and refreshing, though it isn’t heated, and there are two sweet donkeys on the grounds who like being fed figs from the trees. The toiletries were so nice that I ended up buying them. A couple of things made it less comfortable. There’s no restaurant on site anymore or nearby, unless you go to Alcoy, so it’s inconvenient if you don’t want to leave for lunch or dinner. Bringing your own food isn’t ideal when you’re trying to relax. There’s a fridge and microwave on the premises, but not in the rooms. The rooms also don’t have AC. In August ours felt humid and the floor fan didn’t help much. Even so, we enjoyed our stay and will most definitely return.
