Hostal Alma

For a short stay, the location works well, with restaurants, shops and the beach all reachable without a car. The rooms are very basic, with little space for clothes or personal belongings. I’d guess the Hostal is being renovated bit by bit, though I didn’t ask the owner.

The biggest letdown was having no drinking water provided. You have to buy your own from the supermarket. There was no shower gel either, and the shower pressure from the holes was so strong I didn’t want to stand under it. They call it a Hostel, but there’s no shared area or kitchen. After two nights, I felt the service wasn’t worth what I paid. I’ve had much better service elsewhere in Mallorca for less, and I won’t come back.

The pool area was the highlight: it’s fantastic, small enough to warm up quickly for a dip at any time of day. There aren’t many places to sit in the shade, though, and the sun loungers are very uncomfortable. We had to leave the “new” block because of a strong paint smell and no air conditioning. The rooms are basic despite having been recently renovated, and we still weren’t given the room type we booked, which was supposed to have a terrace. The owner did accommodate some of our immediate concerns, and I’d still recommend the place, but would be happy to share a few improvements that could justify the price.

The front desk seemed to be closed all the time, and the owner or manager was extremely rude to guests. Only one woman at the hotel was kind and treated people well. The rooms were average and the hotel needs major renovations. There were odd rules about changing sheets and getting extra towels, and the bathroom tap water was salty. It’s a terrible low-budget hotel.
