Booking.com offered me just €60 in compensation, and my trip is now ruined. I’ve also filed an official complaint with Turismo de La Rioja. I paid €1,325 in full for three rooms at Pensión Jauja for the August 2026 Solar Eclipse. Then the property cancelled through Booking.com, claiming it was “closing.” Moments later, they asked me to book again, blaming a “system error,” but the rooms were already unavailable for my dates. It felt like they’d cancelled my confirmed booking so they could resell the rooms at a higher rate for the Eclipse. I got no protection from Booking.com. I see this as a serious lack of integrity, and I don’t trust this host to honor a paid reservation if someone else offers more.
We’ve stayed here twice and will definitely come back. Celia is warm and attentive, and the pool is fantastic, especially with a small child. The guesthouse is much better than many hotels I’ve stayed in. The beds are very comfortable, the pillows are good, and it’s quiet on the edge of town. Several bars with great tapas are just a five-minute walk away.
We all felt at home thanks to Celia and her family. Her parents and daughter are lovely, and our son became great friends with her daughter, so it was a perfect holiday for both him and us. We stayed for six nights as a couple with our five-year-old, and the rooms were very comfortable and, above all, very clean. Everything was perfect. We’ll definitely be back soon. Thank you so much for everything.
We went to the police station in the neighboring town to report the threats and the missing complaint form. The Civil Guard confirmed the form was mandatory. Before that, the owner had denied us entry again, with our daughter in her arms, and said she’d checked with the Civil Guard and didn’t have to give us a form because we hadn’t stayed there. We’d been parked in an empty lot across the street, trying to calm our crying daughter while walking the dog, when she texted that the spot was her property and threatened to call the Civil Guard if we didn’t leave within 30 minutes. She said her uncle was the sergeant and that she’d send a patrol car. I told her to call whoever she wanted, because we weren’t leaving until our daughter calmed down. This started a few weeks earlier, when we booked a night to rest on the drive back from our vacation in France. At 6:30 p.m., just as we were nearly there, the owner sent a rather rude message saying we were late for check-in, which she said ended at 5:30. She asked us to send her our ID and Bizum for the pet, and said we’d have to leave early the next day because we had a pet. We hadn’t noticed the time because it didn’t seem late, and the trip was difficult with our daughter sick and vomiting. We checked the accommodation’s conditions, which said check-in wasn’t until 6:00 p.m. She hadn’t mentioned the earlier time or that we’d need to leave early, despite sending several messages. She also hadn’t told us about the pet charge. She asked for €20, though Booking.com says €10. I pointed this out and sent a screenshot showing none of those conditions listed. She replied that she had the right of admission and told us not to bother coming because we wouldn’t be staying. I asked her not to cancel the reservation. We were tired, our daughter was sick, and we were already five minutes away, so we were coming anyway. I said that if she wouldn’t let us stay, she’d have to give us a complaint form. The treatment was terrible. The place felt completely unwelcoming, with no empathy and threats of abusing her power.
