Axarquia Beach

At €170 a night, I’d look elsewhere. This was one of the worst holidays I’ve had, and it’s put me off coming back to the region. The pool is small but fine, and the apartment is right beside the beach, with only a gate between them. That was about all I liked. On our last night, at 10:00 PM, I got a WhatsApp saying we had to leave by 11:00 AM the next day. The Booking.com reservation said checkout could be any time from 11:00 AM to midnight. Booking.com agreed with me, but we were on holiday and didn’t want trouble, so we left when asked after filing a complaint. Getting into the apartment on day one was a bit like an escape room, with small combination lockboxes to open. Inside, there was almost no privacy unless you kept the curtains closed. The apartment’s only outside-facing window was the terrace door, and that terrace was a tiny space boxed in by four walls, 3 to 4 meters high. A window from the patio looks onto the staircase used by all the neighbors. People could see inside or come onto the terrace and into the apartment. At night we slept with the security grille shut across that window, which made the room feel like a prison because we were worried someone might get in. Honestly, the photographer was the best part of the apartment. The kitchen supplies were very limited, just one dish towel and a scouring pad, with no cloth or soap. The pillows were awful, and the sofa bed mattress squeaked a lot. Dogs in the community barked and howled at all hours, even at 3:00 AM, so sleeping was impossible. There was a residents’ meeting on our first day, with the police attending, and things went downhill after that. The lower part of the community by the pool was full of rubble, which was disgusting. Signs tried to regulate everything, but no one followed them. Living in that community must be impossible. I was very disappointed in Carlos, David, and Booking.com. If you’ve booked, cancel and find somewhere else.
