After five hours of driving, I arrived with a bad headache and just wanted a normal cup of tea. Instead, the room had only two decaf coffees, three flavoured tea bags, three small bottles of water, and no milk or regular tea. It felt like caffeine was forbidden. When I asked reception for a tea bag, they sent me to the restaurant, where the barman wanted me to pay. It felt ridiculous to be charged for a simple brew at a place calling itself four-star. I’ve stayed at budget roadside inns where milk feels like a basic right. Bring your own milk and Nescafé if you stay here. We’d booked two rooms, and they weren’t in good condition either. The floors and doors had water damage, and the toilet floor was dirty. Not a nice experience overall. Don’t be fooled by the name and star rating.

The rooms were very large and clean. We don’t speak Spanish at all, but David and Lolly in the restaurant gave excellent service and went out of their way to help with our meals. They were always pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. It’s in a quiet area, a 30-minute walk from the beach, and there’s a bus stop outside the hotel.

Breakfast was a nicer start thanks to Asta, who was friendly and helpful whenever she served me. The hotel staff were lovely, and the place is in a relaxed part of town. There’s good-sized underground parking too.

The service here was excellent, and it’s a great hotel. Getting to it isn’t straightforward, though, and the parking entrance is even harder to manage.
