Hotel Antequera Hills

The restaurant and cafe food was really good, with plenty of choices, and the room service crew kept our room spotless every day. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful. My only complaint was that the food cooled very quickly because of the dining room air conditioning and the cold plates.

At breakfast they provided gluten free bread when I asked, along with a dedicated toaster. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the hotel was well maintained and in a good spot. You can walk to the shopping centre and a few restaurants, and it's a 20 minute walk or cab ride to town. We also ate at the buffet one evening. The chef came out and showed me what was safe, which was everything except a couple of pasta dishes. They said they could make gluten free pasta in sauce for me if I wanted.

The reception staff were excellent, but I don't think this deserves four stars. The rooms are adequate, though there's no tea or coffee setup, just one bin in the bathroom and no tissues, the sort of basics I'd expect at this rating. Staff at the bar and in the dining room rarely smiled or interacted. Dinner is buffet style, but guests are assigned a time, and 2020hrs is too late for most people. The food was lukewarm, served on cold plates, and there weren't enough staff to clear tables. The bar was also covered by one person, which wasn't enough at busy times. Other reviews say concerns will be addressed, but service and staff attitude still need work. Dinner should start earlier, without fixed time slots. I was told I couldn't take my unfinished wine to the bar, or fill a water bottle or flask with water. A more can-do attitude would make the hotel worthy of four stars. We reported a rat on the patio, and it was dealt with by putting disinfectant in the drain. Cups and glasses were left around the pool from Saturday until we left on Tuesday. One more thing, stop wedging open fire doors. They're there to protect us, and the extinguishers were two years out of date.

The hotel is generally OK, but the restaurant was disappointing. The food was cold, and the lack of plate warmers didn't help. It felt more like a works canteen than a four star restaurant. There are no facilities in the room, so I was amazed when I was told this morning I couldn't take a drink up with me. I was treated appallingly.
