They’re liars who try to fool you whenever they can. If you’re not local, they change the prices, then aggressively tell you to leave as soon as you’ve finished your drink.

We stop here regularly when walking nearby, and the food and service are great at any hour, early morning or late evening. You can get a pitufo and coffee in the morning, tapas in the afternoon, or a superb meal from the menu later on. I’d recommend stopping by if you’re passing.

We stopped at this lovely little Venta for a quick drink on the way home to Trabuco. It has a traditional rustic feel and pleasant staff, but the bill surprised us: €5.20 for a €1.70 beer and a €3.50 red wine. We’ve never paid that much in this part of Spain. Don’t let it put you off visiting, though. We just thought it was a bit steep.

Just outside Villanueva del Rosario, this is a nice spot for coffee or a quick beer and tapa. I haven’t eaten in the restaurant, so can’t comment on the food. The bar has an authentic country feel, with attractive painted tiles showing the local fauna. There’s a TV by the door that takes away a little from the atmosphere, but the sound is off, so you can ignore it or sit with your back to it.
