The location is hard to fault. It's close to The Brit Store, Mollys Irish Bar, Chaplins, The Red Lion, Brit Bites and Nestors, and only about a 10-minute walk into town. It was a cheap holiday, so you get what you pay for. It didn't spoil the trip, and honestly I'd probably stay again just for the location. After thinking it over, I'm adding another star. The room had a decent bathroom with a good shower and a good-sized sink, but plenty of other things were rough. The WiFi was nonexistent where we were, and the TV was tiny with nothing we could understand on it. We knew there was no air conditioning, but expected the ceiling fans to be at least half decent. They weren't. The main room had a settee, but it was really a leather mattress, uncomfortable to sleep on in 20-something-degree heat. The door and window frames were falling apart with woodworm, so they didn't feel secure. The iron and ironing board were useless. With water, the iron leaked over the clothes; without water, it took ten minutes to iron a T-shirt. Nobody came to empty the bins, change the sheets or bring fresh towels. We had to find a housekeeping staff member if we needed anything.

Our bungalow, number 60, suited us perfectly. It was clean and tidy, with everything we needed for self-catering, including an oven that was a nice and useful surprise. We were close to the pool but still had privacy, and could see the sea from our spot. Ana at reception was really friendly and gave us directions. We stayed for a week, from 20-27th Feb. The apartments are dated but clean, and the staff work hard. There are several pools, and town and the beach are a short walk away. We're already looking at coming back for two weeks.

The worst part was the attempted theft around 4 a.m. Someone opened our window from outside and used a broom to try to pull a wallet on the table closer to it. My wife woke up, grabbed the broom, and the person ran off. It was terrifying, and left us feeling the place wasn't safe. We spent a week there, and it was the worst week imaginable. Our room was filthy and smelled awful, things were broken, and the bed was damaged. Nobody tried to repair it despite repeated requests, so we had to sleep on mattresses on the floor. There were rats around the grounds and ants throughout the rooms. The food was so bad both families had to eat at restaurants every day. Staff were rude and no help, and housekeeping never cleaned our room during the stay. I've never had a more disgusting, unsafe, disappointing holiday. I wouldn't return under any circumstances, and I'll warn friends and family to stay away.

By the fourth day, someone tried our bungalow door at 3 a.m. It happened again at about the same time the following night while I was awake in bed. I pushed the drawers against the bedroom door and secured the handle, then booked another hotel on booking.com, Elba Lucia, for our last night. It was an amazing place with lovely staff. I wish I'd listened to the reviews. Our holiday was ruined. We'd booked this cheap two-star through love holidays for seven days from 9th of February. I'm not usually fussy about where I sleep since I spend my holidays out enjoying the beach and pubs. We arrived around 7.30pm by coach, with no transfer problems. Reception was fine, gave us a little map, and sent us to Moon number 47 near the pool. It seemed lovely at first and was clean enough inside, with a mop bucket but no mop, a sweeping brush, a few assorted pots, cups and pans, and a made bed. Then I noticed blood stains on the mattress. The first day was lovely and we slept well, but the later nights changed everything. After reading the reviews and ignoring them, I'd wondered if the first person at the door was just a drunk holidaymaker who'd got lost, which would be easy to do there.

We waited four hours to check in, and all we wanted afterwards was a shower and some rest. The bungalow smelled doggy. The kitchen items weren't clean, the pan was badly worn, and there were no cleaning supplies. The shower curtain was stained, smelly and disgusting, and didn't keep water in the shower, leaving the bathroom soaked. Both mattresses had awful stains, the bedroom curtain hung from only a few loops, there weren't many sockets, and there was just one duvet for two beds. There was no WiFi onsite, only at reception. The holiday listing advertised WiFi for an extra charge, which we were willing to pay, but reception told us none was available. That's false advertising. Nobody explained where to empty the bins, and there were no ashtrays for smokers. A socket was blocked by the headboard; when we moved it to charge our phones, we found mould stains on the wall. The living room sofa was hard and uncomfortable. There was a mop and bucket, broom, and dustpan and brush, but the mop and bucket were mouldy and the brush and pan were sticky. On the fourth night, a bedroom light bulb broke. Reception said it was a technical fault happening everywhere and would be sorted, but we had no bedroom light for the rest of our seven-night stay. A crack in the wall let in ants and flies, and my partner woke up with bugs in his bed.
