Barcelo Aracena

The villas felt a bit like glamping, and ours was modest and moderately clean. There were quite a few spiders and similar things, though not an extreme amount for a rural area. We took a taxi from Seville and had to roll our luggage down the hills without help from staff. The main hotel is up the mountain.

I really liked the view and the hotel itself, with its thoughtful design, attractive architecture, and lots of outdoor space. The staff were professional, too. Still, it feels like the service needs a little more attention: nobody helped with my bags when I arrived or came to my room to explain things, and the restaurant lounge was closed. I can see why it isn't a five-star hotel yet, though it has potential.

I couldn't sleep in villa number 10, even with the windows wide open. There was a strong smell of burning, cigarettes, and plastic, especially when I switched on the air conditioner for heat. The smoke left me with a headache and nausea, and I felt my health had been seriously affected after a completely sleepless night. I'd booked a villa at reception expecting something luxurious, but the whole place smelled like a smokehouse, as if the fireplace was broken or someone was using it. At that price, it wasn't remotely worth it. I strongly don't recommend staying here.

It's the only place in town, but don't pay the full rate. This is a marginal stay, even in slow season. There were no tissues or coffee in the room, and I had to ask repeatedly for extra towels. Reception doesn't answer the phone, either.
