Peña de Arcos

The room was spacious, but the road noise made it hard to sleep before 3 a.m. The windows don't seal properly, and every car on the stone road sounded like a tank. Water pressure at the taps and shower was very low, and the water smelled. There was limited parking, too. The website said there was no need to reserve a hotel space, but we were told it was full when we arrived. The hotel feels neglected, with mould, water damage, stained dirty carpets, and a clear need for refurbishment. The furniture and decor are dated, the TV didn't work, and breakfast was disappointing. Avoid this hotel.

The breakfast was a real bargain, with everything we could ask for and a coffee machine with plenty of choices. Staff at both the desk and restaurant were professional, friendly, and accommodating with our requests. They even brought a blow dryer when we asked. Arcos is already one of our favorite places, and staying at this hotel made the visit better. It has all the amenities that make you feel at home. We'll definitely stay here on our next trip.

A heads-up about parking would've helped. Construction on the street in front meant the hotel's onsite parking wasn't available, and that was a key reason we chose this place. We parked in a garage instead and walked a short uphill block with our luggage. The room and bathroom were clean and a good size. I like a firm memory foam mattress, though my friend didn't as much. The 24-hour desk was useful since we arrived late, and breakfast really was included as advertised.

The room was extremely noisy because an outdoor dance club across the street had a big sound system, and the music went all night. The French windows didn't seal, and the shades and door handle were broken. Wi-Fi kept cutting out, the sheets weren't tucked under the mattress, there was no duvet, and no soap in the bathroom. The hotel needs serious renovation, though it was relatively clean. Getting there was a mess: Google showed several addresses, none matching our booking confirmation. The first number we called was disconnected. Someone answered the second number we found on Google, but laughed with a coworker while speaking to me and then hung up without giving directions. During Semana Santa, we were worried about the parade road closures and parking, so we gave up and drove into the city to find public parking. We spotted the hotel by chance. At check-in, both receptionists kept chatting and laughing and left us standing at the desk for about five minutes without a greeting or help.
