Finca La Portilla

You’ll need a car to reach the good trails, since the local roads only lead to private properties. But the grounds themselves are lovely, green, full of flowers, and clearly well cared for. Inside, everything was clean, attractive, and in good shape. Our dog had a great time, and we did too. We’d happily come back.

The rooms were pretty standard, and for the facilities, the price felt high to us. We went in November, which was high season. There was also quite a bit of noise coming through the walls from the neighboring house. On the plus side, the place is close to Aroche, where we ate at a few bars and enjoyed the food.

I like coming here to switch off, whether I’m with my partner or my family. I love the atmosphere and the place itself. Juan, who welcomes visitors, is incredibly friendly, and Macarena is lovely and always helpful when you have questions.

We booked this rural house because of its Booking.com score, but our stay didn’t match that impression. The outside is kept up, while inside it felt like a rip-off. The mattresses have sagging springs and looked as if they’d been rescued from a dumpster. Sleeping on them was impossible. There was no oven, despite one appearing in the photos, and none of the air conditioning units worked. I’ve attached a picture of the interior.
