Finca el Rabilargo

There’s hardly any tourism here yet, which suits this beautiful, peaceful area. The cottages sit in nature, are clean and well equipped, and feel wonderfully quiet. We enjoyed walks and birdwatching, and there are also plenty of chances to visit lovely old towns. You can arrange bird hides and other outings through the owner. The hides we went to were high up on the mountain with fantastic views, though getting there was quite an adventure. The local rhythm takes a little adjusting to: shops close from 2 to 5 in the afternoon, and dinner is late, around 9:30.

Our cottage had everything we needed, and that shower was heavenly. On arrival, Lia spoiled us with her cooking, and we had a nice chat with both hosts. There was time each day to talk about what we’d been up to and hear all sorts of interesting facts. Lia and Corné have every reason to be proud of their place. We really enjoyed our stay with them.

The walks nearby are breathtaking, with so much to see and do. We had a wonderful bird photography holiday, heading out across the steppes from early morning until late afternoon with Corné as our guide. He even brought coffee and lunch, along with a folding table and chairs. Back at the house, we were very comfortable and slept in lovely beds. Lia is a great cook, and breakfast was excellent too. Birdwatchers will feel right at home here and in the surrounding area. We spent eight days in a spacious, clean bungalow with wonderful beds. I really loved the quiet, the open space, and the view. We also enjoyed the delicious three-course dinner several times. Thanks for your hospitality, Lia and Corne!
