Hotel Pazo Santa María

We had dinner here while staying across the street, and the service was EXCELLENT. The food was the most varied and tasty we had on the entire camino. The property is rich in history and beautifully cared for. I’d stay the night here in a heartbeat.

This place takes you back to the 18th century, with all the modern comforts you want. After carrying a backpack for 12 days, I had some issues and booked a 45-minute sports massage. I upgraded the in-house massage, and Noelia was a true professional. We drank plenty of water, then had a cocktail while looking out over the Valley at their 2 swans swimming in the pond. We chose to eat dinner on site and were amazed again by the food quality and exceptional service. The interior is stunning too. They’ve done a great job with the property and service, and the website doesn’t do it justice.

We loved the property and the incredibly friendly staff, and the setting is amazing. Being out of town wasn’t a problem for the Camino, since a free shuttle runs to town. Dinner at the restaurant was delicious, though maybe a little overpriced, and the service was exceptional. Our one complaint was the heat. It was 32 degrees and there was no AC or even a fan available. A $30 fan would help guests who aren’t used to Spain’s summer heat. We had to sleep with the windows and door open, which felt strange in a hotel. Still, we loved our stay and would recommend it to future travelers if the heat isn’t an issue. Gracias!!!

When we moved one of the extra beds set up for our kids, we found bed bugs crawling around in our room. The manager offered to move us from our very nice room with a view and space for all of us into four double rooms. It was too late to find another hotel, so we accepted, but we never got keys to the new rooms, which opened onto a courtyard beside the parking lot. We couldn’t lock the doors before going to sleep. There was no apology from the hotel management. We booked through Airbnb, and when we complained, the hotel removed its listing instead of addressing our concerns.
