Eurostars Via De La Plata

The location is handy, just off the main squares, with lots of bars and restaurants nearby. Gaudi's spectacle is about a ten-minute walk away, and the town has a lovely atmosphere. The hotel was fresh, modern, and spotless, with secure parking and up-to-date rooms and facilities. Breakfast had an amazing range, and the staff were really helpful.

Astorga's walking area is right outside, and the hotel is near the main square, the cathedral, and Gaudi Bishops Palace. Excellent spot.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel even if the spa were working. The staff showed little concern, communication was poor, and the hospitality was bad. The person at the front desk understood why we were upset but did nothing, so we were stuck staying there. My friend booked it because of the spa, but the booking site didn't say it was out of service, and there was no sign at the hotel when we arrived. Nobody mentioned it until I asked, when they said, “the spa is broken.” When I explained that we'd come for the spa, they just shrugged and said sorry. They offered no discount or voucher, and couldn't say whether it would be working the next day or the day after. There were cheaper hotels in the area with better rooms, but I couldn't book one because I couldn't get our money back. How can they call it a spa hotel when the spa doesn't work? Truly awful service.

The room itself was okay, but the customer service was a huge letdown. We booked two rooms through Expedia, yet the front desk could only find one. I showed the confirmation emails and my Expedia account, and another staff member, possibly a manager, came to help. They still couldn't locate the second booking, so they told me to call Expedia. I'm visiting from Canada, and had to turn on my international data plan and pay extra to make the call. While I was speaking with Expedia, the staff found the missing reservation but ignored me when I repeatedly asked if I should hang up. The person who found it didn't apologize, walked off abruptly, and made it feel like we'd done something wrong. I stayed polite and even thanked her, hoping for a more respectful response, but customer service clearly wasn't a priority. There wasn't even a kettle or access to hot water, which I wouldn't expect at a four-star hotel. Based on this experience, I'd give it no more than two stars. I hope the feedback leads to changes for future guests.
